In keeping with the overall idea of leather accompanying us throughout our lives, the exhibited objects from different cultures and eras outlined a fictional cycle of life. The arc spanned birth, childhood, first love, marriage, working life and ultimately death. Here, stand-out items from the collection represented the individual chapters in life – for example a North American baby carrier, a pair of bridal shoes from Vienna, an engineer’s measuring devices contained in a fine stingray-leather case, and an Egyptian death wreath made of gilded leather.
