LEATHER IN TRANSITION – A series of lectures at the German Leather Museum

It was back in 2019 that the German Leather Museum launched its LEATHER IN TRANSITION lecture series, in which figures from the world of leatherworking today talk to Frankfurt-based art journalist Dr. Anett Göthe about the future of the material, innovations and sustainability, as well as craftsmanship and tradition in the leather industry.

With Dr. Haiko Schulz, Managing Director of Forschungsinstitut Leder und Kunststoffbahnen (FILK), a research institute for leather and synthetic materials, based in Freiberg, nr. Dresden, and Andreas Meyer, Managing Director of the German Leather Federation (VDK), Frankfurt.

OFFENBACH’S LEATHER GOODS – BETWEEN TRADITION AND PRESENT DAY

With Hans-Christian Hammann, who heads up the longstanding Offenbach firm Lederwaren F. Hammann as the fifth generation of the funding family to be at the helm, Stefan Bruder, one of the managing directors of Abro, a Rodgau-based family firm that dates back to the 1930s, and designer duo Esther Schulze-Tsatsas and Dimitrios Tsatsas, whose label TSATSAS was launched in Frankfurt & Offenbach back in 2012.

With designer Valerie Sietzy from Early (Frankfurt/Main), the designers Katharina Pfaff and Lisa Frisch from frisch BEUTEL (Frankfurt/Main) and the saddler and bagmaker Marlon Navarro from Marlon Navarro Leather Goods (Offenbach/Main).

HANS SCHWARZ – GREEN COUTURE IN FUR CLOTHING

With the Frankfurt furrier Hans Schwarz, who is producing furs in the fourth generation and has received national and international awards. Under the "GREEN COUTURE" label, only skins from livestock farming or from invasive species are processed.
